Reno, Nevada, may be famous for it’s casinos, but at Christmas time, it’s a dazzling arena of lights and holiday cheer (and that’s not from the flashing lights of the casinos!). There are several holiday light displays that are available for the public to attend and this article will detail a few of them to make it easier to decide where you want to go. So gather up your family and enjoy these spectacular light displays during the 2007 Christmas season.

Hidden Valley Parade of Lights

Whenever the locals think of holiday lights in Reno, they instantly think of Hidden Valley. Every year, Hidden Valley has their Parade of Lights. Several streets in Hidden Valley are festively decorated with Christmas lights and different displays. There are contests for the best displays and people who come and view the event can even get the chance to vote for their favorite decorated house. In past years, Hidden Valley has even worked with charities to bring in money for foster children. This event usually starts on December 12th and ends on December 31st. Hidden Valley’s Parade of lights is located in Southeast Reno.

Squaw Valley Festival of Lights

Squaw Valley Festival of Lights is a yearly event that brings in thousands. There will be plenty of shopping opportunities as well as entertainment for adults and children alike. Festival of Lights begins on December 1st and ends December 31st. It is well worth the short drive to Lake Tahoe to partake in the holiday festivities. On December 24th at dusk, there will be a torchlight parade. The torchlight parade is truly a sight to behold as several Squaw Valley Ski School Instructors ski down a mountain path with lighted torches. You can see the lighted torches from miles away but I recommend getting their right when they start or even a little earlier so you can find a good area to watch. Make sure you bundle up your family and drink plenty of hot chocolate to stay warm as it will be very cold. In addition, if you are a casino player, you may also want to try some of their games. You can even play 99Poker. This will give you more fun and excitement as you celebrate Christmas with your family.

Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights

The Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights is located in nearby Carson City. This event is on December 6th. Attendees will be able to see the lighting of the Capital State Building as well as the rest of downtown Carson City. There will be several activities such as a visit from Santa and caroling. Bring your camera so you’re able to take a picture of your little ones with Santa Claus. Various refreshments will be available for purchase at the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights. The Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights starts at 5:30 PM. Many people attend this holiday event, so you may want to go early to insure that you’ll get a good parking space.
