The cash game is what many call the “pure” form of poker and definitely has a noticeable strategic difference compared with its tournament counterpart that you can find out on DominoQQ. After you get through the basics of learning the game and playing within your bankroll, there are a couple of things that you must always remember to be a successful cash game player.

Position

The position is one of the most important aspects to master when playing in a cash game. For those of you that are unaware, your position is defined as to how far away you are from the “dealer” or “button”. The position of the button is constantly rotating around the table, so it is a must to always know where you are in relation to your opponents. Depending on how you play, many successful poker players won’t even playing anything worse than a top ten hand when in an early position. The reason and theory behind all of this are because the latter position you are, the more action you get to see before it’s your turn. Therefore, being “on the button” is usually the most desired position in poker because you are the last player to act on the flop, turn, and river. Many consider the position to be the single-handedly most important aspect to master in poker. However, simply playing your position won’t make you a great player, it also depends on exactly how you play it.

Playing Style

Now, there’s definitely no “right” way to play poker that will make you win all the time. But, many professionals that have been around the game for decades can tell you that the sought-after approach to a poker game is the tight/aggressive style. This basically means that you are patient pre-flop and wait for fairly good hands to see the flop with. However, once you see the flop, your gears completely change to being very aggressive against your opponent. Sure it’s great if you hit something on the flop, but even if you didn’t, your job is to make the other player believe you did. Another style that has just recently taken the poker stage by storm is the loose/aggressive. This is also characterized by “maniac” play, but let me tell you that there is a very fine line between super-aggressive and stupid. I personally suggest starting off with tight/aggressive and as you become more comfortable, start to loosen up just a little bit while taking into account position.
